Therma-Stor LLC, located in Madison, Wisconsin, was established in 1977 to apply advanced heat transfer technologies to residential and commercial markets. Beginning with heat recovery water heaters, Therma-Stor now also manufactures a line of residential dehumidifiers, which includes the Santa Fe series of free-standing dehumidifiers and the Ultra-Aire series of whole house ventilating dehumidifiers. Therma-Stor also offers Hi-E Dry commercial dehumidifiers and the Phoenix line of restoration equipment for dehumidification, air scrubbing, water extraction, and evaporative drying.

Position Summary:

Therma-Stor’s team of Production Supervisors work with the Plant Manager to lead and coach production employees in meeting safety, quality, efficiency and production goals. This will be accomplished by providing supervisory leadership, efficient production management, problem solving, and open communication with the production employees, engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and supply chain teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a coach, trainer, and support for all production needs
  • Manage Production Union Employees including, but not limited to, daily activities related to the timely and accurate production of all required units
  • Follow & administer plant rules and policies to achieve company objectives
  • Knowledge of all units including the assembly processes under areas of responsibility
    • Ability to work with Production on potential efficiencies
    • Answer questions on all stations of the build process
    • Work with Support departments on projects and provide feedback based on unit knowledge
  • Work with Management on projects to improve efficiencies throughout the department
  • Work with Management on the development of department metrics, track and report out metrics
  • Manage all Production processes including, but not limited to:
    • Knowledge of the current Production schedule, priorities and the units being produced on assigned Production lines
    • Communication to each Production lines Assistant Foreman or Group Lead the Production priorities; including low priorities where labor adjustments would be made as required
    • Track and understand the condition of assigned Production lines
      • Production completed versus cycle time
      • Reasoning behind any variance
    • Determine proper resources to cover all Production needs, understanding the labor plans set
      • Direct labor required
      • Alternate indirect labor plan
  • Manage daily Receiving processes including, but not limited to:
    • Oversees the movement of material from receiving to the warehouse in an efficient, effective and safe manner.
    • Monitors the unloading of all materials into the receiving department; ensures materials are staged for counting and inspection; ensures receiving reports accurately report material received.
    • Develop and implement new procedures to decrease inventory movement and increase overall efficiency among stock clerks in the receiving department
  • Develop cross-training program for Production employees
    • Review employees within classifications for time spent performing the associated task
    • Manage the labor planning for cross-training opportunities
    • Communicate cross-training requirements to the Assistant Foreman assigned to the Production line
  • Awareness and support of company processes impacting Production, including but not limited to:
    • Quality Alerts
    • Deviations
    • Rework required and process
    • CTS (Component Tracking System)
    • ECO (Engineering Change Order) changes impacting Production
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering on all Projects and Initiatives
    • Know and track available labor plans
    • Work with the department and provide constructive feedback
    • Proactively adjust labor to maintain labor plans
      • Sacrifice lowest priority lines
      • Shut down lines as required to keep priority lines running
      • Run front and/or back as labor dictates
    • Support new Projects
      • Work with the department and provide constructive feedback
      • Play a proactive role in all areas impacting Production
      • Support the Implementation of the project and follow the project requirements
      • Control the Implementation to ensure continued adherence to the process
  • Support all Lean Manufacturing projects and processes implemented
    • Understand and Support of 5S
    • Complete audit checklists daily
    • Encourage and Reinforce the 5S and Lean Manufacturing practices and requirements
    • Provide feedback on processes and projects
  • Manage the inventory and condition of tools, equipment and fixtures required for Production lines
    • Communicate to Maintenance when new, replacements or refurbished equipment is required
  • Recognize employee performance and help provide an environment promoting involvement, accountability and engagement
  • Communicate effectively with all departments
    • Availability during working hours for all required communications; by phone or email
    • Proactive planning when out of the office or unavailable, communicated to all departments
  • Manage the start-up and shut-down of all Production
    • Verify readiness before the shift where all lights, conveyors, fans etc. are on and functional
    • Verify close of day by shutting down or off all required areas with lights, conveyors, fans etc.
  • Contribute to the company’s overall strategic direction, mission and goals
  • Support safety practices and communicate all issues immediately
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal)
  • Three (3) plus years’ supervision experience in a manufacturing environment, union experience preferred
  • MRP experience; JD Edwards preferred, but not required
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Solid work ethic and team player
  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Business, Engineering or a related field preferred
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency using Microsoft products
  • Familiarity with standard manufacturing concepts and practices
  • Project Management, Lean Certification or Training preferred
