Cover all earth and wall below grade of the earth with plastic. Close vents to the outside. No need for sealing between the main floor. Using the Ultra-Aire 100V APD, use a 8" return from the main floor to the UA. Install a 8" tee connected to the supply of the a/c. Use a damper on the leg of the tee. A small amount, 50-75 cfm, of dry air to the crawlspace from the UA will keep the crawlspace dry. Use the dehumidistat control located on the mainfloor to control the dehumidifying function of the UA. This will control upto 2,500 sq.ft. of home plus a crawlspace. With dry air from the UA, duct work in the crawlspace and a wood floor between the main floor your whole house will be <50% RH. You can turn off your a/c when unoccupied and have good humidity control. The residual musty odor will decline after the home is dry. Using the fresh air option will help with odor.

Sorry I missed the height thing. You can remote the dehumidifier from the space with ducts. The UA 100 V needs more than 30", more like 48" to be located in the crawlspace. New model is available April 1 for tight spots. The UA 135 H is like the UA 150 H only a little smaller. It needs 20" of height X 21 depth X 40" length and handles up to 3,500 sq.ft.. Literture available on web soon. Thanks Ken

Yes you may open the vents when the outside dew points are <50^F. While the dew points are <50^F the outside temperature will <50^F which cools the crawlspace, which wastes energy. Therefore, close or eliminate the outside vents. Thanks for a good post. Ken
